The 2013 National Championships

Matthew Abela managed to win the prelimary round in the 2013 National Championships in the men's single event (Prelimery). His first match against PBC Patrick Cassar saw Matthew and Patrick do their utmost to win the match. However it was Matthew who finally settled the score 2 sets to 1. In his second encounter with B'Kara Albert Bezzina he managed to defeat Albert with a 2-1 win. Matthew struggled in the second set trying to win every point, however Albert proved to be the better in the second set. In the third set Matthew was more focused and determined to win beating albert 21/14. Final results 21/16,19/21/21/14. In the mains event we saw crippled David cole loose against Samuel Cali of B'Kara. David could not cover the court well as his leg was giving him all sorts of problems. In the men's doubles we saw a superb Matthew/ Owen against Kyle/Nigel from Msida Arrows. Although PBC lost the first set, they managed to win the second quited easily. In the third set Msida Arrows were well ahead with a score of 11/5 against our boys. As the game progressed we saw a number of mistakes by Msida Arrows and a couple of very well positioned drives from PBC bringing the score to 19/17. It was our boy's determination and fighting spirit that inspired Matthew and Owen to win the decisive set 24/22. Well done both of you. In the match against Steven Ferrante and Samuel Cali PBC our boys made a remarkable performance playing against such a tough team. It was a three set win for B'Kara. May we remind our members that on Wednesday 1st of May at around 10.00am our Dominique will be playing against Fiorella in the Ladies singles event. Please make time to come and support Dominique as this would encourage her more to play better.
